The course aims to provide the necessary technical background in the design, operation and maintenance of power distribution system in an industrial plant.
After completing the course, the students are expected to: 1. Understand the design requirements for electric power distribution in industrial power systems. 2. Select and size appropriate power distribution equipment and power cables. 3. Verify system grounding. 4. Analyze and solve problems associated with electrical power installations in an industrial plant. 5. Establish maintenance plans for industrial power distribution installations.

Distribution network configuration. Earthing systems. Electrical components and accessories for industrial applications. Power cables, cables installation. Power switching devices: disconnectors, switch-disconnectors, circuit breakers, power contactors, rotary cam switches. Protective devices: fuses, circuit breakers. Short circuit current calculations: three-phase short circuits, single-phase short circuits, ground fault. Cable sizing guide. Voltage drop calculations. Thermal stress for cables. Selecting protective devices. Coordination requirements. Motor electrical protection: overload protection, overvoltage protection, undervoltage protection, unbalance protection, short circuit protection.
