The goal of this course is to introduce students to the basics of standardization, legislations and methodologies indicating product conformity with the requirements of European directives and standards which include safety from the aspect of entire product lifecycle. The course covers all aspects of CE/3A product marking, from initial activities to certification and producer responsibility for consumer safety.

Students acquire theoretical and practical knowledge on implementation of European legislations for industrial and other products with the purpose of their harmonization with the essential requirements of the European „New Approach“ Directives. Students are introduced to the notion of CE and 3A product marking and they acquire knowledge about the necessary activities to obtain CE marking, content of technical files, risk analysis, aspects of product safety, safety signs, CE/3A certification, producer responsibility and functioning of market monitoring in Serbia and EU.

Introduction to the course. Product market in EU. Significance of standardization and certification of products for export-oriented enterprises. Technical, economic and safety elements of product quality. Evaluation of products and processes. European directives and standards for industrial and other products. Directives of the new and old approach. Harmonized standards. Global approach to product certification and testing. Technical documentation of a product and safety aspects. The term and principles of CE marking. 3A – Serbian sign of conformity. Steps to CE/3A marking. Technical files of products with the focus on consumer safety. Risk analysis and evaluation. User manual. Safety signs and warnings when using a product. Producer responsibility for product safety and market monitoring. Certification and authorized representatives. Connection with other standards. Product conformity assessment through examples.

Teaching takes place in the form of lectures, auditory and laboratory exercises. Theoretical part of the course with typical examples from practice is represented on the lectures. Exercises are practically designed for applying acquired knowledge through specific examples and tasks. For the purpose of expanding practical knowledge, company visits are organized. Consultations are held regularly in order to bring course material closer to the process writing appropriate project papers. Colloquiums refer to the theoretical part of the course.
