Acquiring knowledge and competencies in the field of Computer Aided Process Planning (CAPP) and Product Data Management in its lifecycle (PDM). Developing creative abilities and mastering specific skills in the application of information technologies in technological preparation of production (CAD/CAPP/CAM), organization of the technological database and product data management (PDM).
After successfully completing this course, a student is able to: Explain and describe the place and role of technological production preparation in production system, product life cycle and integral product development; Enumerate the basic types of CAPP systems and describe the basic characteristics of their development and application; Identify elements for developing knowledge base for automation of process planning; Design products and manufacturing process using feature and group technologies, generate post processing information, determine times and cost of machining operations as well as define required production resources; Describe modern approaches in the development of CAPP systems and integration with CAD, CAM and other CAx systems; Identify the basic elements, stages of development and organizations of database in integrated CAPP systems; Define concept and functions for managing product data and describe the architecture of PDM systems
Introduction to the course. Technological preparation of production as a function of the production and CIM system. The place and role of technological preparation within the product lifecycle management (PLM) and integrated product development. General model of technological preparation of production with described stages. The concept, role and relevance of the CAPP system. Conceptual CAPP systems. Variant, generative and vario-generative CAPP systems. Automation of the selection of production resources and elements of the technological process. Precedence rules and process planning optimization. Integration of CAD, CAPP, CAM and other CAx systems. Modern approaches in the development of CAPP systems based on the application of features, AI methods (expert systems, neural networks, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithms), metaheuristics, agent-based methods, STEP/STEP-NC standards, Internet technologies, etc. Technological basis for the development of CIM system. Stages of development of the technological database. Database and knowledge base for manufacturing processes in CAPP systems. The concept and basic functions of the Product Data Management (PDM). Storage and sharing of documents and structured data describing the product in digital form. The relationship of the PDM system with other systems in the product lifecycle. PDM system architecture. Modern trends in the development of the CIM system (CE, digital and collaborative manufacturing, e-manufacturing, etc.).
Classes are held in the form of lectures and computer exercises. Theoretical part of the course with typical examples from practice is represented on the lectures. Students are trained to apply information and communication technologies from the course material and write seminar papers on computer exercises. Colloquium exams refers to the theoretical part of the exam and represent the test in a written form. Also, consultations are held regularly in order to bring course material closer to the development and fulfillment of required project and seminar tasks and papers.
