Subject: Alternative fuel supply systems in IC engines (17.M2555)

Native organizations units: No data
General information:

Category Theoretical-methodological
Scientific or art field Motorna vozila i motori SUS
Interdisciplinary No
ECTS 4
Educational goal:

Acquiring wider theoretical and practical knowledge of IC engine alternative fuels and appropriate fuel supply systems.

Educational outcome:

Students' ability to independently and creatively use the acquired knowledge and skills in solving specific and non-routine problems in the field of liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas fuel supply systems in motor vehicles, and to examine correctness of the installation of these systems in motor vehicles as well.

Course content:

Physical and chemical properties of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). Liquefied petroleum gas as a fuel for IC engines. Physical and chemical properties of natural gas (NG). Natural gas as a fuel for IC engines. Classification of fuel supply systems in engines powered by liquefied petroleum gas and natural gas. Different generations of LPG supply systems in IC engines - operating principles. Different generations of compressed natural gas (CNG) supply systems in IC engines - operating principles. Main features of LPG system components in IC engines. Main features of CNG system components in IC engines. Legislation regulating the correct installation of LPG and CNG equipment on motor vehicles.

Teaching methods:

Lectures are oral, supplemented by adequate images, diagrams, schemes and video-clips projected on the screen by a computer and a video beam. Auditory practice classes contain computing exercises and video presentations, while the laboratory practice classes are performed on real vehicles with alternative fuel supply systems. If possible, it is also planned that one part of the exercises be held at a service for the installation of TNG in motor vehicles.
