The main objective of this course is to help students understand and develop the knowledge and skills necessary to handle crisis situations. The complex content of the object will be viewed and analyzed from multiple perspectives. Course through a combination of theoretical teaching units and practical projects, it focuses on issues: hazard (geological, meteorological, biological and technical), vulnerability and risk assessment, disaster risk reduction, emergency planning, disaster planning, business strategies emergency situations and crisis management. The course will develop skills of risk management, analysis of complex problems, evaluation of possible solutions and planning of implementation of risk management.
Students will be able to fully understand the natural and technical hazards, vulnerability and risk of disaster; it will develop the ability to analyze risks, threats and opportunities, but also to devise and implement solutions. Students will master techniques to reduce disaster risks and manage them, including the ability to manage emergencies and ensure continuity in business in such situations. Through practical work, students will develop mapping skills using geo-information systems.
Through a combination of theoretical teaching units and practical projects, the course will address the following components: Hazards, vulnerability, risk and disaster: the perception of the threats (natural and anthropogenic), vulnerability and risk; characteristics of accidents, their assessment and management. Business continuity and crisis management: unit on business continuity and crisis planning; financial and risk management, catastrophe, insurance and reinsurance modeling through a range of case studies from the United Kingdom, Turkey and the small island states Disaster Management Techniques: Methods and Techniques Used in Disaster Risk Assessment, GPS and GIS mapping for search and rescue actions. Natural disasters: geological, meteorological, biological and technological disasters, rapid and slow disasters; impacts of climate change, disaster management and mitigation. Organization risk: identification and management of corporate security risks.
