Introduction to the basic aspects of the repair and strengthening of concrete structures for the design and execution of the repair of concrete structures, taking into account the actual state of the structure, owner’s requests, environmental impacts and the estimated service life. Acquiring knowledge on methods for the repair and strengthening of concrete structures.

Student possesses specialized knowledge that is necessary for the design and execution of the repair of concrete structures. A student is capable of selecting and planning the most optimal methods for repairing concrete elements or structures depending on the cause and degree of damage, repair possibilities, availability of financial resources and other relevant conditions.

Technical specification and criteria for selecting the material for concrete structure repair. Preparation of concrete structures for repair (concrete preparation, reinforcement preparation). Techniques of application of repair materials. Methods for increasing the bond. Crack repair procedures. Structural repair and strengthening (methods, details and calculation basis); decreasing the bearing capacity of structural elements; transferring the load to adjacent structural elements with satisfactory bearing capacity; decreasing the span of structures without satisfactory bearing capacity; modification of the structural system; strengthening the structures by prestressing procedures; repairs by cross section increase; strengthening and repair by gluing additional lamellas. Materials for repairs and protection of concrete structures. Technical regulative in the field of the repair of concrete structures. Examples of the repairs of concrete structures.

Lectures, auditory, laboratory and site practice and consultations. During lectures, various types of presentations are used to explain the course content predicted by the curriculum. At laboratory practice students can can get acquainted with different repair materials. At auditory practice several case studies of repair and strengthening of different concrete structures are presented in order to explain possibilities of application of different repair materials and methods. Students are obliged to work in small groups and to prepare and defend seminar work in which they analyzed chosen repair technique. Students activity is evaluated during lectures and exercises, as well as elaboration and defense of seminar work. The exam consists of a theoretical part. Parts of the lectures can be taken through one colloquium during semester. The theoretical part is taken orally in examination terms.
