Educational goal:

Introduction on basic theoretical principles and advanced technologies in the field of durability of concrete and masonry structures. Mastering the knowledge required for the identification, classification and evaluation of defects and damages of concrete and masonry structures

Educational outcome:

Complementary knowledge in the field of durability of concrete and masonry structures and understanding of complex mechanisms of deterioration of civil engineering facilities due to the impact of different influencing factors during their service life. Competence for successfully solving specified problems for the purpose of ensuring the designed durability, with the emphasis on engineering facilities. The ability to keep up to date with contemporary achievements. Critical analysis and synthesis of new and complex ideas in the field of design of concrete and masonry structures from the aspect of required durability.

Course content:

Lectures are arranged into two parts: a) aspects and models of predicting and prolonging the durability of concrete structures, and b) aspects and models of predicting and prolonging the durability of masonry structures. Within each area, typical forms of deterioration of concrete and masonry structures in addition to the main causes and mechanisms of their destruction are analyzed. The special focus is put on the parameters which directly influence the service life of structures (the quality of built in materials and structures, the environmental impacts and the service load).
