The primary goal of this course is to acquire knowledge of the current state of the art in computational modelling methods and numerical simulating of the mechanical response of engineering materials used in civil engineering.
Qualifying students for advanced modelling of civil engineering structures and analysis of non-linear behaviours through the mastery of mathematical models and formulations in continuum mechanics.
Index notation and tensorial calculus in continuum mechanics. Types of stress and strain measures and their dependence. Elasticity, elastoplasticity, strengthening, damage mechanics, fracture and time-dependent characteristics of materials. Analytical and numerical models of behaviour. Computer implementation of algorithms through programming tasks. Numerical methods for solving systems of non-linear equations. Non-linear constitutive models for civil engineering materials (steel, concrete, mortar, wood, stone, brick).
Lectures in the form of presentations and consultations with the professor. The student chooses the area for preparing the seminar paper, completed in consultation with the professor. Defence of the seminar paper.
