Becoming familiar with the methods of signal detection and estimation.
Understanding the methods of signal detection and estimation in a noisy environment.
Hypothesis testing; detection of the known signal in additive white Gaussian noise; detection of sinusoidal signals with random parameters (phase, amplitude, frequency, time of arrival) in additive white Gaussian noise based on a single channel observation; Multiple observations: Signal detection in the coloured Gaussian noise; Signal parameter estimation; PLL as a phase and frequency estimator; Estimation of parameters by reducing the signal sequence generator to a finite state automaton model.
