Introduction to the key characteristics of machine-type communications: service models and traffic patterns, short-packet communication and information theory, protocol design and wireless networking techniques.
Theoretical and practical understanding of machine-type communications: analysis and design of communication algorithms and solutions for machine-type communications.
Key service models and models of traffic arrivals for machine type communications (MTC): massive MTC and ultra-reliable low latency communications (URLLC). Fundamental results of the finite blocklength information theory. Principles of wireless networking for MTC. Protocols and standards for MTC. Examples of applications based on MTC.
Lectures. Consultations. Independent research work: literature survey, design and conducting experiments, statistical analysis of the data, numerical simulations. Project assignment is a mandatory part of the course.
