Acquiring in-depth knowledge and skills needed for an individual and group work in the field of scene design and techniques, with a special focus on understanding and application of the 19th century principles of scenic art in the contemporary practices.

Knowledge and understanding of the principles of scene design and techniques in the renaissance and baroque age. Ability to recognize and creatively apply these traditional ideas in the contemporary scene design and technique. Ability to work individually on concrete artistic tasks.

Spatial design of contemporary performing events in the context of the 19th century ideas about performing space. Avant-garde concepts of performing space. Working in an integral stage and auditorium space. Breaking the performing space. Techniques of conceiving and realizing scenes in the avant-garde theatre. Ideas on the performing space of the early avant-garde applied in contemporary stage practice. Emancipation of the performing space as a play site. Ideas about the performing space outside the theatre building. City as a stage or a scene.

Interactive lectures – a teacher presentation and obligatory conversation with the students on a given lecture topic. Collective, group and independent creative and research student work on a project under the mentorship of teachers and teaching assistants. Workshops in which the topics elaborated in lectures are analysed and connected through practical work with the students’ projects. Student project implies the development of a conceptual design for a given stage and a given dramatic text. The project is a contemporary interpretation of the modern theatre concepts and principles in ambience.
