The aim of the Application design course is to familiarize students with the basics of visual design with the aim to supplement the user experience. The students will be introduced to a wholistic process of designing a user interface within an application which is divided in four phases. Within the first phase, students will be introduced to the basics of perception and cognition that help effectively design application interface. During the second phase, students will master the basics of visual design and typography for online and mobile platforms, which will serve as a basis for the third phase in which students learn how to design the interface for application. In the fourth phase, students will learn how to perform controlled experiments online and analyze their results.
After completing the pre-examination and examination phase of the course, students will be able to: comprehend the basic methods of user interface design; design a user interface that is focused on the user’s needs; effectively apply the principles of visual design and typography to design online and mobile application interface.
Theoretical part of the Application Design Course includes the following learning units: Introduction to user interface design, Principles of perception and cognition, Principles of design, Visual elements of user interface design, User interface interaction, user experience, Strategic planning and information architecture, Interface design process through wireframing and prototyping, Design process, psychology of colours and typography for web and mobile platforms, Designing of prototypes, and Design iterations.
Teaching methodology is conducted interactively in the form of lectures and computer exercises and it includes lectures, computer exercises and consultations. The lectures present the theoretical part of the material, accompanied by examples to better understanding the subject matter. Computer exercises are organized in a way to complement the skills necessary for the practice of user experience design.
