The objective of the subject is to familiarize students with the flow of ideas, theories and practices within wider social, historical, philosophical or artistic contexts, which generated emergence and development of modern architecture, art and culture in 20th century.

The outcome of the course is to train students in comprehensive understanding of causal links in the development of contemporary architecture, art and culture, observed within context of social, political, economic, and cultural occasions in the 20th century. The course will enable students to see the man-made environment, artistic and cultural milieu of the epoch in their entirety, as well as to be able to formulate their own high-quality critical and analytical observations, positions, and knowledge about contemporary architecture, art, and culture.

The subject researches modern and postmodern architecture, art and culture in the 20th century; postmodern urbanism and phenomenon of megalopolis; follows the mutual influences among theories and practices in architecture, art and culture, as well as wider complex of the ideas and orientations in different disciplines that emerged during the 20th century in philosophy, sociology, economics, politics, theory of culture, etc.
