Subject: Modern Instrumental Methods of Pollutants Analysis in the Environment (17.ZSP17)

General information:

Category Professional-applicative
Scientific or art field Environment Protection Engineering
ECTS 10

- To develop students knowledge about the structure and physico-chemical characteristics of the most commonly occurring pollutants in wastewater - To provide students knowledge about the theoretical basics and the practical application of modern instrumental methods in analysis of pollutants in the environment - To provide students knowledge about prevention and control of environmental contamination - To develop students skills in communication, written and oral presentations of project tasks

At the end of the course, students should be able to: -Elucidate the physical and chemical properties of the most common pollutants in wastewater -Suggest and define the prevention and control of a specific case of environmental contamination -Select and apply an appropriate instrumental method for the analysis of pollutants -Write a seminar work and orally present the results using the Prezi or Power Point software

The presence of contaminants in effluents of processing industry and communal wastewater. Best available techniques (BAT) in the prevention and control of environmental contamination. The basics of instrumental methods of analysis. Chromatography methods. Gas chromatography (GC). Liquid chromatography (HPLC). Mass spectrometry (MS). Combined techniques (GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, HPLC-MS, HPLC-MS/MS, HPLC-TOF-MS/MS). Open Educational Resources (OER) in the application of combined techniques. Spectroscopic methods. Absorption spectroscopy (IR,visible, UV). Atomic absorption spectroscopy. Nuclear magnetic resonance.
