Acquiring knowledge on environmental problems in agriculture, definition of sustainable agriculture, and contribution of biosystems engineering.

Knowledge and skills related to the sustainable agriculture, and contribution of biosystems engineering to approaching it

Course content:

An introduction to the course, acquainting students with responsibilities at work. The identification of major environmental problems in the world and agriculture. Presentation and discussion of the sustainable agriculture definition. Contribution of biosystems engineering to approaching of sustainability. Example of environmental friendly engines for tractors and self propelled machines, legislation and engineering solutions. Identification of problems and solutions. Renewable raw material sources from agriculture, examples of medicinal and aromatic plants, reed as construction material etc. Global GAP, good agriculture practice, and the role of agricultural engineering. Organic production, environmental positive and negative impacts.

Teaching methods:

Auditory classes, essay with oral defense, colloquial exam and oral exam.
