ECTS 6
Educational goal:

The aim of the course is to enable students to acquire theoretical and practical knowledge (through practical examples) in the field of designing systems and devices for the treatment of waste streams.

Educational outcome:

Students should use the acquired knowledge in further training and education, as well as in solving practical engineering problems from in the field of designing systems and devices for the treatment of waste streams.

Course content:

Calculation of flue gas emissions in the operation of industrial and power plants; Overview of permitted emissions of flue gases, factors and quantities determined by them depending on the type of facility; carbon-dioxide storage and storage technologies; Technologies and devices for flue gas extraction; Technologies and devices for reducing the emissions of light hydrocarbons, sulfur and nitrogen oxides. General characteristics of wastewater (types, quantities, physical-chemical characteristics, biological characteristics); Processes, operations, lines and systems for purification of wastewater; Mechanical wastewater treatment processes (egalization, application of gratings and sieves, precipitation, centrifugation, flotation, filtration); Heat treatment processes for wastewater (evaporation, distillation); Chemical treatment of sewage treatment (chemical deposition, oxidation, aeration, adsorption); Processing of products from wastewater treatment;

Teaching methods:

Lectures, exercises, seminars, consultations. The lectures show the theoretical part of the material followed by characteristic examples for a better understanding of the presented material. At the exercises that follow the lectures, there are characteristic tasks and examples from practice. In addition to lectures and exercises, consultations are regularly held. In order for the student to take the exam, student should fulfill the prerequisite obligations, to regularly attend lectures and exercises and to do the project assignment.
