Within the course students will be presented with cinematic projections of urban landscapes that reflect complex spatial and social relations in modern cities, relying on different urban and film theories and through the interpretation of architectural and urban models of modern cities. Films that illuminate the complex spatial relationships, as well as the cultural, sociological and economic values of a particular society in which different meanings are produced and consumed will be analyzed by using critical approach.

Students will develop the practice of active viewing, in contrast to the passive observation of moving images, which implies architectural and urban research and analysis of the presented landscapes, as well as an assessment of the sociological, cultural and political messages displayed in films. Students will be focused on understanding the importance of the social dimension of architecture and the city, and the importance of acknowledging it in processes that involve the design and planning of urban spaces.
