Subject: Principles of digital modulations (17.S1328P)

Native organizations units: Department of Power, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering
General information:

Category Professional-applicative
Scientific or art field Telecommunications and Signal Processing
Interdisciplinary No
ECTS 5
Educational goal:

This course builds upon the topics studied in the course Principles of digital communications (SK300) and is intended to deepen the students’ knowledge in this field by covering various digital signal transmission techniques that are used in modern communication systems.

Educational outcome:

After successfully completing the course, students will: 1.) Have a comprehensive overview of the modern techniques for digital signal transmission, 2.) Be able to determine/estimate the performance parameters of a given system for digital signal transmission and to compare different proposed solutions in terms of their performance parameters.

Course content:

Basic types of modulations (amplitude shift keying, phase shift keying, frequency shift keying) and their performance parameters (probability of error, spectral efficiency). OFDM. Spread spectrum techniques – direct sequence, frequency hopping. Multiple-antenna systems – MIMO channels.

Teaching methods:

Lectures, tutorials, consultations. The student can take only a certain part of the material which is a unique whole (section) within the syllabus of the subject. This form of taking is not obligatory and is declared as the Final Exam I part.
