Subject: Behaviour processes in traffic engineering (17.S0MI4N)

Native organizations units: Department of Traffic Engineering
General information:

Category Professional-applicative
Scientific or art field Traffic Planning, Regulation and Safety
Interdisciplinary No
ECTS 5
Educational goal:

The main objective of the course is the acquisition of knowledge based on analysis of traffic participant’s behaviour. The course examines fundamental research on the role of perception, as well as research related to information processing, attention and decision making process in traffic. Students will learn about a process where, based on a large number of information, effective decision-making is made in the various traffic situations that the participants in the traffic system encounter. On the basis of the information processing, students will learn about applied measures in traffic which make it easier for traffic participants while driving and performing other traffic activities. They will consider innovative solutions for user-friendly systems and which help in the decision-making process.

Educational outcome:

Students will understand the basic principles concerning the role of human factors in the traffic system. They will acquire the necessary knowledge in the field of behavioural processes whose principles are applied in the design of traffic infrastructure, vehicles and systems in vehicles. Students will be able to independently define the problem, organize and conduct research, analyse data, apply statistical methods and present research results.

Course content:

Significance analysis of the behaviour of traffic participants. Sensory processes. Perception. Attention. Perceptual-motor behaviour. Information and command indicators. Physical and climatic environment. Perception of traffic signalization. Impact behaviour of traffic participants in decision-making system. Reaction time in different traffic situations.
