Educational goal:

The objective of the course is to introduce the student to the fundamentals of occupational health and safety, and environmental protection in foundries and heat treating facilities.

Educational outcome:

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to: summarize current legislation; select personal protective equipment; name health and safety hazards and foundries and heat treating facilities and suggest potential solutions for their mitigation; name and describe potential sources of contaminants in foundry and heat treating facilities; name and describe air pollution control equipment;

Course content:

Current legislation. Health and safety hazards in foundries and heat treatment facilities. Personal protective equipment and clothing; Solutions for the prevention of musculoskeletal injuries in foundries and heat treating facilities; Measurement of contamination in the workplace and of air pollution emissions; indoor air quality control in foundries and heat treating facilities; Air pollution emission control equipment

Teaching methods:

Teaching is held interactively as lectures and laboratory practice. During lectures, the theoretical part of the teaching content is presented and supplemented by characteristic practical examples for better understanding. During lectures, discussion between students is frequently initiated in order to increase motivation, expand student understanding, broaden student perspectives and clarify potential ambiguities. During laboratory practice, the obtained knowledge is practically applied on the available laboratory equipment. Apart from lectures and practice, consultations are held regularly.
