ECTS 6

Preparing the students to be ready for subtle thinking and gaining the basic knowledge from mathematical methods crucial for quantitative elaboration of different phenomena in electrodynamics and quantum mechanics. After completing of this program students are enable to deal with some basic topics in pertaining scientific fields (primarly the Maxwell’s electrodynamics and quantum mechanics of harmonic oscillators and simple atoms).

The acquired knowledge serves for student’s future education and in the other subjects of studying in order to establish and to solve the adequate mathematical models.

Theoretical study:The solution of partial differential equations of second order in therms of method of separation of variables. (The Laplace equation and the Schrodinger equation). The WKB (Wentzel-Kramers-Brillouin) method for differential equations of mathematical physics. Solutions of equations of harmonic oscillators and hydrogen atom by the method of power series expansions. Josephson’s effect and sine-Gordon equation. Nonlinear transmission lines and pertaining solitonic waves. The perturbation theory. Practical classes (exercise): the exercises are performed with appropriate examples of theory that practicing a given material and therefore contribute to the understanding and practice of a given material.

Lectures. Numerical and calculation practice. Consultations. Lectures are organized in combined form. The presentation of the theoretical part is followed by the corresponding examples which contribute to better understanding of the theoretical part. During the practice classes which follow the lectures, the subject matter is supported by charactristic examples to provide futher practice and better understanding In addition to lectures and practice classes there are regular consultations. There is a possibility of taking partial examinations which cover certain logical units during the course.
