Subject: Measurement of fluid properties (17.M34I62)

General information:

Category Scientific-professional
Scientific or art field Mehanika fluida, hidropneumatska, gasna i naftna tehnika
ECTS 6

The aim of the subject is acquiring the knowledge, competencies and academic skills of students about error theory measurement, ways of data proceeding and measurement result representation and modern methods of measurement of fluid properties. The course envisages development of creative abilities and mastering of specific practical skills in the domain of measuring fluid properties. We also plan students to achieve the ability to use information and communication technologies in the field of measurement of fluid properties.

Ability for solving of specific problems in the field of measurement of fluid properties. Ability to critically and self-critical thinking and approach in solving of specific problems in the field of measurement of fluid properties. Students will be trained to use modern methods of measurement of fluid properties, apply measurement error theory and different ways of data processing and results representation. Development of skills and ability in the field of measurement of fluid properties. Students will also be trained to use information and communication technologies in the field of measurement of fluid properties.

Relative and absolute measurement error. Measurement uncertainty, unreliability and resolution. Processing and presentation of measurement results. Temperature measurement by infrared thermometer. Calibration of pressure gauge with piston pressure gauge. Measurement of fluid density by hydrometer. Measurement of fluid level by ultrasound level meter. Measurement of viscosity coefficient by Hepler and Osvald viscometer. Measurement of natural gas composition by gas chromatograph. Calibration of displacement gas meter, turbine gas flow meter and gas volume corrector. Measurement of liquid flow rate by ultrasonic flow meter without pipe destruction and Thomson's weir. Measurement of flow rate and flue gas composition. Determination of evaporating curve, ignition temperature and cetane number of diesel fuels.

Teaching is done with modern didactic means and methods, interactively in the form of lectures, laboratory and computational exercises. In addition to lectures and exercises, consultations are also regularly held. The lectures present the theoretical part of the material accompanied by characteristic examples for easier understanding of the subject matter. Students practically apply acquired knowledge during laboratory exercises by using of available laboratory equipments.
