The objective of the course is to give knowledge in the field of electrical and electronic systems in vehicles with internal combustion engines. Knowledge includes a short history of development in this field, its current state, and the directions of the future development.
The students will be trained to understand electrical systems in vehicles powered by internal combustion engines, the mode of operation and the role of the essential electrical parts in the vehicle. The laboratory exercises will allow students to understand electrical measurements, the necessary measuring equipment and how to handle it. They will have opportunity to gain practical experiences and work with the real automotive equipment.
Introduction. A brief history of automotive industry. The basics of electrical engineering and electronics. Power supply of electric and electronic assemblies in the car. Batteries. Alternators. Starters. Electronic ignition systems. Step motors. Comfort systems. Electrical installations. Lighting systems. Auto diagnostic tools. Directions for future development of electrical installations in vehicles.
The subject is presented through the lectures and laboratory exercises. Within the lectures the most important types of electrical and electronics systems in vehicles are presented. The theoretical basis and principles of certain parts and their connection are presented. Lectures also include a background history as well as directions for future development. Laboratory exercises are carried out in a laboratory equipped with appropriate models of electrical subsystems in vehicles, measuring equipment and computer equipment. By working with this equipment, students get a direct insight into operation principle of vehicle electronic and electrical subsystems, as well as practical experience related to the measurement and use of measuring equipment.
