Interdisciplinary No
ECTS 4
Educational goal:

The aim of this course is to provide students with theoretical and practical knowledge about the basic methods and techniques, i.e. “quality tools”, in the field of Lean Six Sigma approach, such as data collection methods, data processing, graphical displaying and data analysis; which are commonly used as basis for problem identification, in day-to-day operations, as well for managerial and engineering multi-criteria decision-making processes, with the aim to provide support for workflow improvements, within Lean Six Sigma concepts.

Educational outcome:

After completing this subject and an exam, the student will be able to understand and apply the basic concepts, i.e. quality “tools” of the Lean Six Sigma approach, which are used for: (1) data collection, graphic presentation of data and data analysis (2) methods and techniques for identifying problems in day-to-day life of an organization, (3) methods and techniques of multi-criteria decision making, with the aim to (4) design possible improvements of work processes, through practical aspects of Lean Six Sigma concept application.

Course content:

The nature of organisational data, structure of organisational data, types of data in an organisation (2) methods and techniques of graphical presentation and data analysis, while aiming for detecting trends of changes, and interdependencies between variables. On their premises, further analysis are drawn, i.e. (3) the application of multi-criteria decision-making methods (FlowScape, AHP, ANP, DEMATEL, Mean-Variance Ranking) Finally, (4) methods and techniques of process and workflow improvement are presented, (Improvement Strategies , 8D, Five Step Improvement Method, Seven steps Joiner's Method).

Teaching methods:

Lectures, consultations, practical exercises. The rating is based on the success of the project and an oral exam.
