The objective of the course is that students understand the specifics of product data and the challenges associated with managing product data throughout the life cycle of the product. Students will acquire knowledge related to the structure and specificity of product data, file organization, concepts and principles for managing databases, as well as data analysis, database creation, data modeling, database product management throughout the life cycle of products and their implementation. In addition, they will be introduced to basic systems for automatic product identification. Engineering approach to matter enables students to acquire the necessary knowledge to implement and implement various product management systems.
On the completion of this course the students will acquire practical and theoretical knowledge: about the database systems used by contemporary product data management systems; about the basic means of exchanging data: direct translation, neutral file formats, and data sharing; and about metadata models. Besides that, they will be skilled in the application of a PDM system and ways to implement systems for automatic identification.
Principles of integrated products and processes development. Product life cycle, planning and management. The specific issues about product data management during the product lifecycle. Product data. Introduction to systems for automatic identification. Technology for automatic identification of products. Labeling and product recognition. Control of the data collected. Process management based on data collected from the work process. An architecture of contemporary product data management systems. The data vault – basic concepts. Meta-data database.
