Educational goal:

Objective of the course is to develop ability for students to understand, develop, install and manage the process of technology investment strategy. Technology investment strategy, from the information systems engineers prospective, is the way how engineers can use strategic management of innovation and technology to enhance company performance.

Educational outcome:

Students who complete this course successfully will be able to evaluate organizational readiness of the system, to understand the process of technological change, the ways that firms come up with innovations, the strategies that firms use to benefit from innovation, and the process of formulating technology strategy.

Course content:

Introduction to technology investment strategy. Technology Evolution. Firm-level technology absorption: Technological Readiness. IT Governance. Customer Needs. Competitive Advantage in High Tech Industries. Technical Standards. Strategy in Networked Industries. Formulating Technology Strategy. Formulating Technology Strategy: Collaboration Strategies, Strategic Human Resource Management of Technical Professionals, and Organization Structure for Technology Strategy. Implementation of technology investment strategy. Financial information technology investment methods. Use of strategic management tools for IT investment strategy.

Teaching methods:

Lectures are auditory with theoretical treatment of the required number of case studies. Study and research work includes auditory introduction to issues in focus, interactive processing of case studies and partial testing in the Moodle.
