The aim of the subject is that students gain basic knowledge about the application of the virtual approach in the development of complex business systems, of the enterprise itself and its manufacturing units. The aim of the subject is that students gain the competences for the application of different methods for the development of the virtual organizational structures and processes which provide increased flexibility and competitiveness in the market. Also the aim of the subject is that students gain knowledge about the technologies which are applied in the virtual enterprises.

Students will be able to understand the importance of the virtual approach in the development of the business systems. Students will gain competences to apply the different methods and techniques for the formation of virtual enterprises, and methods and techniques for applying the virtual approach in the supply chain. Students will be able to apply this approach in order to design the production structures of virtual work units. Student will also be to understand the technologies which are applied within the virtual factories and how they affect the work processes.

Introduction. Tendencies in the development of production and service enterprises. Virtual organization approach, virtual enterprise. Structure of the virtual enterprise. Virtual enterprise as a way of integration of the supply chain. Methodologies for the development, planning and management of the virtual enterprise. Business processes, data and the application of modern information technologies in virtual enterprises. Industry 4.0 and virtual enterprises. Digital (smart) factory. Virtual production units. Methodologies for the production planning and control in the virtual production units.

Instructional method includes lectures with the practical examples of virtual enterprises, computer exercises and case studies. Exercises include examples with techniques and methods for the creation of virtual enterprises. Case studies are used to integrate the different course topics and to show students how the various techniques are interrelated and applied in real situations. Students are doing the project task in which they apply their knowledge to the specific cases from practice.
