The educational goal of the course is to familiarize students with modern project management tools and techniques. The course is dealing with the concepts and knowledge about formal project management procedures and software tools that supports these procedures in practice. In the part relating to project management methods and techniques, a generic modelof the processes, defined by Project Management Institute (PMBOK), is presented, and the possibilities of its application and adaptation with regard to the size and type of the project.

Students who successfully pass pre-exam obligations and the exam are able to: (1) understand the importance and application field of different tools and techniques in project management; (2) to apply a large number of tools, methods and techniques needed for effective and efficient project management.

Modern project management tools and techniques and their application area in project management. Methods, tools techniques in the project initiation phase. Brainstorming method. Game theory. Decision making methods. Methods, tools and techniques in the project planning phase. WBS - Work Breakdown Structure. OBS - Organizational Breakdown Structure. PERT - Program Evaluation and Review Techniques. CPM - Critical Path Method. PDM - Precedence Diagramming Method. Matrix diagram. Gantts diagram.

Teaching is conducted through lectures and practical computer classes. Lectures combine theory and practical examples, giving basic concepts and theoretical background for the use of various project management tools and techniques, along with the occasional visits of guest lecturers from industry. Practical computer classes are dedicated to group or individually work on a specific project assignments and tasks, in order to practice the usage of various project management tools and techniques.
