Educational goal:

Mastering of the research approaches and methods in structures and materials (special steel objects) with the aim of preparing for doctoral thesis. Mastering the theoretical knowledge, as well as methods and techniques of researching the actual problems of modern steel constructions, taking into account the importance of a multidisciplinary approach.

Educational outcome:

Enabling of independently engage in research work, with the possibility of defining problems, applying and linking acquired knowledge in the subject area with knowledge acquired in other fields of construction. Ability to monitor contemporary achievements, as well as critical analysis, assessment and synthesis of new and complex ideas in the field of metal structures

Course content:

Modern trends of metal structures development -material and fasteners. Design solutions, loadings, design rules, detailing and assembling for different types of structures: tanks, silos, bunkers, chimneys, towers, pipelines, spatial roof structure, hanging roof structures, power line structures, spillways. Orthotropic plates in steel bridges. Theoretical bases for the design of orthotropic plates.

Teaching methods:

Lectures or mentorship, assignments, semestral projects, consultations. During the semester, shorter tasks will be given with the deadline of one to two weeks, or longer tasks - semestral projects. It will be required that each task be completed within a specified time limit. Each task will be reviewed and, if necessary, followed by teachers' comments and recommendations. In the case of semestral projects, a public presentation is planned, which will also be evaluated.
