The aim of the course of Photography is to introduce creative , technological and historical circumstances of this medium to students from technical field. The point of creative artistic aspects is to bring students into art processes which will enhance their creativity in other fields of their activities as well. Learning about technical and historical development of photography will enable students to understand its technical foundations and to set the relations between artistic and photographic demands and graphical reproduction of the image.
This course introduces technology of photographs production and expected requirements in the preparation and realization of creative projects. Students acquire photography vocabulary and necessary knowledge which enable them to understand social and artistic significance of photographical medium. The final outcome of the course can be seen in the creation of the final portfolio which is the result of creation challenges in the art of photography. Students apply acquired knowledge skills in realization of the portfolio.
The course involves presenting of technical and technological bases of photography, as well as the selection from historically photographical themes and contemprorary photo production at art and applied level. The semester is focused to constant taking and selection of the photographs for the exam portfolio. The lecture has the following units:The power of photography, History of photography (creation and developmentn of photographical process), Introduction into photographic technique (basic camera parts and functions), Camera lenses, Demonstration of the camera, Light character and the position in the relation to the camera and model, Art photographs/Photography as Art, Advertising photographs principles, The treatment of space in photography
Classes on the topic of Photography include three primary components; lectures, critical thinking lessons, and both practical and computer exercises. The theory is presented through lectures which are supplemented with visual materials that support and exemplify the current teaching unit. The significant segment of the course are the workshops that encourage critical thinking and are organized through lectures, discussions, and analysis of students’ assignments. Practical exercises will address various photography techniques and studio lighting. The computer-based exercises develop from the practical exercises where students edit visual materials in applications for raster graphics. Apart from lectures and practical work, consulting hours for students are regularly held.
