General information:

Category Scientific-professional
Scientific or art field
  • Graphic Design
  • Grafičko inženjerstvo
ECTS 4

The objective of the course is to acquire basic knowledge about the principles of graphic interface design (GUI) with a focus on basic graphic elements - frames, windows, menus, buttons, etc., as well as visual literacy and communication in a virtual environment. Then design and create a prototype graphic interface using graphic tools for manipulating graphic design elements in a virtual environment, loading it on different devices, and testing the usability and functionality of the graphical interface.

Students acquire the basic knowledge necessary for independent creation of graphical interface solutions for specific applications - from idea to prototype, through knowledge of basic graphic elements for interaction with application, understanding of concept of graphical interface, specificity of graphic design in virtual environment and aesthetics of network site, application of visual aesthetic the standards of graphic design in a virtual environment, as well as for the independent implementation of empirical testing of functionality and usability of the solution.

Getting to know basic concepts of graphic design (color, typography, picture elements). The concept of graphical interface, its hardware and software carriers. The design principles of the graphical interface. Guidelines and trends of graphic design and typography in the domain of graphic inteface. Visual literacy and communication in a virtual environment. Graphic interface elements - visual identity, menu systems, navigation schemes and menu types, dialog box and informative windows, buttons, text fields, cursor, links, animated effects, multimedia elements, etc. Control elements in the graphical interface and their design. Visual confusion, accessibility and personalization of the graphical interface. Graphical interface on various electronic devices. Responsive graphical interface. Creating sketches and prototypes of the graphical interface. Graphic interface testing methodology and presentation of information, user interaction, experience and requirements.

Teaching takes place in the form of lectures, computer exercises and consultations. Lectures are conducted using didactic and educational content in electronic and digital form. In lectures, with the use of modern presentations and demonstration tools and techniques with the application of interactive method of work with students in order to gain insight into their background, theoretical part of the material is presented with examples. On computer exercises, students create and test graphic interface solutions for specific applications by applying the principles and rules of conceiving the structure and content of the graphical interface while designing a system of menus, windows, icons and command graphic elements. The graphical interface is created from idea to prototype using software tools, after which the overtaking of matter is confirmed through the creation of an independent semester project that is defended within the oral exam.
