The synergy of professional knowledge in the field of graphic production through the preparation of materials for graphic making, from material collection, through the design of the workflow to the output files ready for realization is the goal of the subject that should provide its content with quality graphic preparation for different graphic systems. If graphic preparation is not well done, further production is practically impossible or at best difficulty. As the graphic preparation prepares the first step of the workflow, all other steps, printing and final graphic processing can be very likely to suffer the consequences of insufficiently well-prepared graphic preparation. Both through printing and through the finalization of the consequences of bad graphic preparation, they are reflected in the difficulty in making the required material, the longer production time to the interruption of production as the direct consequence of the failure in the preparation.
Over the years, the importance of graphic preparation has steadily grown, because the preconditions for producing a high-quality graphic product were set in preparation. Both through printing and through the finalization of the consequences of bad graphic preparation, they are reflected in the difficulty in making the required material, the longer production time to the interruption of production as the direct consequence of the failure in the preparation. The student must be familiar with the relevant characteristics of the printing machines within the workflow that will produce the product concerned. The same applies to final graphic processing machines on which the respective graphics product will be finalized. Only then, using theoretical and practical knowledge in the subject of graphic preparation, a student can expect that what is planned in production and is realized.
The content of the course includes all relevant concepts, processes, and tools for achieving the objective of the course. The theoretical and practical part complement each other and as such present during the whole course. Each lesson in theory is followed by appropriate computer exercises where theoretical knowledge is practically applied. The description of the colors in the computer graphics is directly related to the mode of operation of different graphic systems for which the preparation is done, the resolution and the raster are observed through the technical characteristics of the output devices as well as the effects of the visible raster templates that create with the viewer, different approaches to graphic preparation depending on the printing techniques or the media will be explained in the theoretical part, after which in the practical part preparation is made for the appropriate printing technique, the construction of a graphic product with component elements of color, image and text, file formats in graphic preparation, special techniques of refinement, types of error compensation that may arise in production, raster frequencies with emphasis on advantages and disadvantages of different types of rasterization, test prints, file checks, print control, publishing process.
Teaching takes place through modern didactic means and methods. The theoretical part is presented in lectures with elements of a virtual laboratory which will enable a better understanding of graphic processes and devices for which graphic preparation is performed. Computer exercises are organized to follow the theoretical part of the subject with practical skills required for high-quality graphic preparation.
