Understanding of representative works of art, starting with the oldest drawings, found in caves, all the way to the works that began in the decades after the Second World War. Developing skills of visual interpretation and identifying stylistic characteristics in a the work of art. Understanding the professional terms used in art discourse, as well as acquiring the ability for aesthetic estimation.
With this approach, students focus on so-called case studies, through which they gain a better understanding of the specificity of the creative process. The width of knowledge acquired by studying subjects whose educational goal is to understand the wider context of an artistic prerequisite (style/direction/movement) is complemented by a more detailed analysis of selected masterpieces of art history. All the masterpieces that students will become familiar with are well-known references to which many modern works are called or quoted. By understanding their deeper meanings students gain visual literacy necessary in today's creative industries.
The focus is on a deeper analysis of individual works of art, and not so much on the stylistic properties of the epoch or a period. Because of that lectures within the course are organised in such a way that one class hour is sufficient for one topic. For this reason, the names of the lectures contain two titles: Expression of Cave Paintings / Stylisations of Venus figurines, Khufu Pyramid / Tutankhamun's Tomb, Athens Acropolis / Laocoon Group, Colosseum and Pantheon / Portraits of Emperors, Hagia Sophia and San Vitale / Cathedral, Leonardo's Painting / Michelangelo's Sculpture, Caravaggio's Naturalism / Vermeer's Composition, Themes of Jacques Louis David / Themes of Kaspar David Friedrich, Courbet's Understanding of Art / Dematerialization in Monet Works, Emancipation of Colour / Kandinsky - Malevich - Mondrian, Marinetti's Project / Dada, The Magical World of Paul Klee / Magritte's Metaphor, Polock's Gesture / Warhol's Product, Kosuth's Concept / Beuys's Performance, Themes of Sava Sumanovic / The Socialist Realism in Yugoslavia
