General information:

Category Professional-applicative
Scientific or art field Telecommunications and Signal Processing
ECTS 5

To acquire new knowledge of state-of-the-art techniques, approaches and tools in the domain of information and communication technologies. To additionally develop scientific competences, academical and practical skills in the domain of information and communication technologies. The intention of the lecturers at this course is that the students should expand their knowledge of fundamental concepts in this area, understand their relationships and usage, and be able to define and solve a given practical problem, by identifying it and selecting appropriate methods to solve it, thus developing their reasoning and decision making as engineers. An additional course objective is that students should expand their capacity to study a scientific area using appropriate literature sources and develop a way of thinking based on sound knowledge of theory and oriented on solving practical problems.

Thorough knowledge of specific emerging information and communication system relevant to existing state-of-the-art (for example, 5G New Radio communication interface, Mobile Edge Computing information processing framework, etc.). Capability of solving complex problems in this area of engineering, based on scientific methods and procedures. Development of creative and independent reasoning about problems in the domain of ICT technologies. After this course the students are able to critically think, logically connect theoretical and practical knowledge in the domain of ICT technologies, apply the acquired knowledge and work in teams, demonstrate their understanding and skills, as well as apply the obtained knowledge for development of new solutions in the domain of ICT systems. After this course the students are able to further study this domain by using a wider range of literature sources in search of information needed for expanding the level of their knowledge and skills.

The course will cover the following tentative areas in communications and information processing technologies: 1) Fundamental technologies, industry overview and standards 2) Wide Area Networks and Internet 3) Mobile networks, 5G systems and mobile service providers 4) Internet of Things technology 5) Cloud systems, services and technology overview 6) Smart factories and Industry 4.0 7) Internet security - standards and solutions 8) Vehicular communications (V2X technologies)
