Acquiring basic knowledge of guided and unguided optical communication systems. Introduction to fundamental optical networks represented in practice.

Complete understanding of network technologies - knowledge of the functions of switching and transport systems. Understanding the principles of fiber optic transmission and the basic elements needed for the design of optical systems in practice. Qualification for inclusion in the work in the organizations offering telecommunications services.

The principles of optical transmission elements of optical links. Propagation of EM waves in a circular waveguided. Group delay and dispersion. Types of the optical fibers and their application. Modal and chromatic optical fiber bandwidth. Optoelectronic conversion principles. Optical couplers. Optical amplifiers. Wavelengths division multiplexing (WDM). Optic communication system design. Digital transmission systems (PDH, SDH and OTN); Introduction to Optical Wireless Communications (OWC). History and overview of the OWC systems. Classification of the OWC systems: FSO and VLC systems. Propagation model types. Application in 5G telecommunication systems: challenges and safety classifications.
