Present new video technologies and standards for recording, transmission and reproduction of video signals. Describe the principles of operation of video equipment and presentational systems. Explain the formats of video signals and tools for their digital processing in multimedia.
Students will learn about the nature of image and how humans perceive details. Based on this, they will understand the concept of systems for digitizing, compressing, processing and transmission of video signals. They will introduce the basic principles of operation and connections of cameras, monitors and projectors. Students will learn the concept of temporal and spatial resolution, as well as the principles on which the analog and digital image transmission are based. They will also learn the basic modulation methods used in digital television.
The physical and physiological image properties (what people can see, visual range). Multimedia video formats. Image recording and reproduction units (cameras, monitors, projestors). Principles of video signal transmission. Analog system limitations. Reasons for digitization of TV broadcasting. Properties and possibilities of digital systems. TV compression procedures.
