Understanding procedure of radio link and system design. Mastering the techniques of radio link budget calculation: propagation modelling and prediction of EM field level.
Ability to design radio links and systems: theoretical knowledge, usage of computer tools.
Introduction to radio systems: regulations, frequency bands. Radio communication link: components, analysis, transmission loss, effective noise, budget, availability. Antennas: parameters, classification, protection. Transceiver construction (block diagram, components, architecture), performance parameters and examples. Line-of-sight microwave radio links. Implementing a radio link. Link budget design for tropospheric links: effects of the hydrometeors, effects of obstacles. Reliability and (un)availability. Median signal predictions. Link quality metrics. Improvement techniques in radiowave reception. Point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radio systems. Design of radio coverage (radio map). Fundamentals of cellular radio: RF coverage, handoff and radio resource management. RF pollution.
