Educational goal:

Acquiring basic knowledge in the field of realization of control and control systems in industry. Acquiring knowledge about distributed industrial systems and ways of connecting them. Stimulating the student with modern technologies and trends in the field of computer-based systems management.

Educational outcome:

Ability to know the operation of computers in the realization of supervisory and control systems and the principles of networking. Knowing the principles of operation of various industrial protocols and network software. Training for realization of SCADA system in LabVIEW software package.

Course content:

Introduction to industrial networks and protocols. RS232, RS485, DeviceNet, ProfiBus, Modbus and Ethernet protocols. Industrial networks and protocols are most often used in the implementation of complex SCADA systems for measuring, monitoring and controlling industrial processes. LabVIEW Datalogging and Supervisory Control (DSC) software module is an add-on for LabVIEW that contains tools that help monitor the operation of distributed systems and is used for larger control applications and industrial automation. This module is specially designed for monitoring a large number of inputs and outputs, communication with industrial controllers and networks, and for collecting data from a large number of measuring points. The DSC module enables clients and servers to create complex SCADA systems as well as networking and connectivity for data exchange with devices from different manufacturers. The DSC module is created as an event-managed management architecture and allows monitoring of the state of variables, their archiving and display in real time. Data display can be very well done thanks to a large library of already-ready features that enable successful MMI (Man Machine Interfaces) communication. Also, the DSC module enables the monitoring of alarm and event events in the system, and provides information about them and also performs processing. The DSC module enables efficient monitoring and archiving of measurement data in a standard database, such as: MySQL, MSDE and Citadel. The DSC module also allows working with many other PLCs and process equipment manufacturers, using the OPC server.
