Acquiring of knowledge about theory of traveling waves and distributed parameters. Acquiring of knowledge about switching transients in electrical networks. Acquiring of basic knowledge about switching arc and transients in case of arc interruption.

Knowledge about basic terms and concepts related to transients in electrical networks. The ability of students to analyze transients in simple electrical circuits with lumped and distributed parameters. Knowledge about the most frequent switching transients in electrical networks. Knowledge about software tools that are used for analyzing transients in electrical networks.

Classification of transients. Frequency dependent modeling. Differential equations and Laplace transformation. Simple switching transients in lumped circuits. Theory of distributed parameters. Travelling waves: velocity of travelling waves, characteristic impedance, attenuation and distortion of electromagnetic waves, the telegraph equations, reflection and refraction of travelling waves, the lattice diagram. Switching transients: interrupting capacitive current, capacitive inrush current, interrupting inductive current, transformer inrush current. Switching arc and arc-circuit interaction.
