Subject: Distributed Electrical Energy Resources (17.EE564)

Native organizations units: Department of Power, Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering
General information:

Category Professional-applicative
Scientific or art field Energetska elektronika, mašine, pogoni i obnovljivi izvori električne energije
ECTS 5

The objective of the course is to provide basic knowledge on principles of operation and exploitation of distributed energy resources (DERs) - generators and storage of electricity, as new elements in existing and emerging distribution networks (DM). Also, the goal is to get a detailed introduction to the working methods, design, construction and the techno-economic aspects of their application. Additionally, students will be introduced to the specificities of interconnection and operation of DERs to the traditional DM.

Students will be able to calculate, use and project various types of distributed energy resources (DER), as well as to improve the possibilities of their application in existing and emerging networks. It will also gain practical experience in working with renewable energy generators - wind and solar power plants, with the ways of their interconnection, influence and operation in existing and emerging distribution networks (DN). Further-on, students will be trained to use the appropriate software tools for analyzing DN in presence of DERs.

Introduction - Overview and Types of Distributed Energy Resources (DER). Energy potential and geographical distribution. The situation in the EU and Serbia. Mode of use and possibilities of converting energy with DER. Converters of energy of the sun and energy of the wind in electricity - theory, models and way of functioning. Characteristics and selection of electric generators in power plants in the wind. Complex power plants (wind farm farms) - mode, emergency regimes, management, connection to the distribution network (DM). Storage of electricity - modern principles, technologies and solutions. Electric cars as storage facility. Other types of DER. Methods of control. Economic-commercial conditions for the application of DER for the production and sale of electricity. Advantages and problems in distributed work (unstable network, island work, quality of electricity, etc.). Review, training and application of modern software tools for analyzing the connection and operation of DER in existing and emerging DM. Independent work of students with modern software on solving typical examples of DER application in the DM, through the development of semester projects and their presentation and defense

Theoretical aspects and mathematical models will be presented in lectures. Problem solving and design methods will be done at auditory exercises, while training for the implementation of configurations and testing of DER will be done in the framework of computer and laboratory exercises. Independent work of students will be expressed through the development of the project.
