Acquiring the basic knowledge from the power system management (Energy Management System - EMS and Distribution Management System - DMS), regarding the methodology and algorithms for the optimization of production-transmission and distribution capacities. The aim is to learn the students for solving the practical problems in power system dispatching and decision making in power system optimization. Also, the aim is understanding the different industry related power system optimization tools inside EMS and DMS.
At the end of the course, students will be able to: - Modelling the certain physical effects which happen under some operation conditions (in transmission and distribution networks – EMS and DMS). - Formulate and solve the basic analytical functions of power system operation inside EMS and DMS. - Understanding the software packages for optimization and simulation of dispatching management in real-world production-transmission and distribution networks. - Derive the necessary conclusions on the basis of the obtained results for the purpose of power system optimization.
- Energy Management System (EMS). Structure and functions of SCADA system. - Technical realization of voltage and reactive power control. Primary, secondary and tertiary control. - Frequency and active power control. - Technical realization of frequency and active power control. - Static state estimation. - Transient analysis. - Small signal stability. - Voltage stability. - Distribution Management System (DMS): Basics of DMS systems (basic functionalities, architecture, integrations and basic DMS applications). - Advanced DMS functionalities (applications for power distribution network optimization and analysis). - Technical and economic analysis: costs and benefits of implementation of DMS systems (total effects, energy losses reduction, operation cost reduction, investment cost reduction, power quality improvement, benefits from optimal control, investment in automatization, Cost-Benefit analysis of network automation). - Development planning of distribution networks.
