Acquiring basic knowledge about the three-phase power systems, which are necessary for basic steady-state calculations – power flow and short-circuit calculation. This knowledge consists of basic mathematical elements, electrical circuits theory aimed at representing of power system elements and power systems, as well as of modeling of the power system elements – loads, AC machines, transformers, lines, capacitors and reactors.
Central position of the electric energy in the contemporary energy mix. The ability of students for sequence domain modeling the basic three-phase elements of power systems (consumers, lines, transformers, AC machines) in sinusoidal, three-phase symmetrical steady-states. The ability of students for modeling and solving simple exercises of three-phase power systems, as well as the power flow problem.
Mathematical tools necessary for basic calculations of three-phase power systems (sinusoidal functions, complex numbers and operations, matrices, linear equations, nonlinear equations, and differential equations). Power system circuits include basic laws for modeling and calculation of electrical circuits typical for power systems in steady-states. Symmetrical components and per unit system are specially stressed. The power system elements consist of sequence circuits of three-phase loads, AC machines, transformers, lines, capacitor banks and inductors.
