Subject: System Modelling and Simulation (17.E232)

Native organizations units: Sub-department for Automatic Control and Systems Engineering
General information:

Category Theoretical-methodological
Scientific or art field Automatic Control and System Engineering
Interdisciplinary No
ECTS 8
Educational goal:

Mastering theoretical and practical basics of system modeling and simulation.

Educational outcome:

Acquired knowledge can be used in solving specific engineering problems, and also present a basis for further understanding of professional courses

Course content:

Basics of modeling and simulation (goals, elements, theory, classifications, processes, etc.). Mathematical models (time continuous and discrete models, linear and non-linear models, linearization, etc.). Modelling physical systems (mechanical, thermal, hydro, electrical and electro-mechanical systems, analogies between physical quantities and parameters). Simulations of systems described by mathematical models (analytical results, numerical algorithms and calculations, simulation languages and simulation software, etc.). Event based simulations. System identification and parameters estimation. Basics of modelling based on machine learning (artificial neural networks).

Teaching methods:

Lectures; Numerical and calculation practice. Computer practice. Consultations. The examination is written and oral. The written part consists of at least four tasks, in order to pass the examination a students must successfully complete at least 50% of each task. The course material can be divided into two colloquia. The oral part of the examination is based on a list of examination questions. The colloquia, tests and written examination are written. The written part is eliminating. The final grade is formed on the basis of written examination (or colloquia), tests, written and oral parts of the examination.
