ECTS 4

Provide students with basic knowledge in basic physics laws, particularly thermodynamics, wave motion and the basis of atomic physics, with an emphasis on their application in electronics.

Acquired knowledge will be used in professional courses for understanding the physical essence of technical processes.

The atomic and molecular structure of matter. Maxwell and Bol?zmann's micro particle statistics. Laws of thermodynamics. Phase transitions. Kinetic phenomena (diffusion, heat conduction, viscosity). Progressive mechanical waves. Ultrasound and applications. Doppler effect and application. Physical and physiological sound intensity. Electromagnetic waves, the classical Hertzian dipole. Bohr model of the atom, photon emission and absorption. Photoelectric effect and Compton effect. De Broglie dualism, electronic microscope. Geometric optics, wave refraction, mirrors, lenses, microscopes. Wave optics, interference, diffraction, dispersion, polarisation. Elementary basics of quantum mechanics and quantum statistical physics (Heisenberg's principle, Schrödinger equation, Fermi - Dirac distribution).

Lectures. Laboratory and calculation practice. Consultations. The theoretical part of the material, accompanied by appropriate examples of the application of physical principles in technique is presented in lectures. Laboratory exercises involve experimental work in areas that are foreseen by the plan and program of the course. Calculation exercises consist of characteristic examples that illustrate the theory application to problem solving, which altogether deepen the understanding of basic physical laws in nature. In addition to lectures and exercises, consultations are also held regularly.
