Subject: Traffic flow research and simulation (17.DSSK3A)

Native organizations units: Department of Traffic Engineering
General information:

Category Scientific-professional
Scientific or art field Traffic Planning, Regulation and Safety
Interdisciplinary No
ECTS 10
Educational goal:

Acquiring knowledge in the field of traffic flows research and simulation (passenger flows, motor vehicle flows, bicycle flows, pedestrian flows, etc.). Designing models and algorithms in accordance with the characteristics of traffic flows on the road and street network. Applications of software for the simulation and research of traffic flow characteristics.

Educational outcome:

Application of acquired knowledge to research the impact of traffic flows in the diferent planning stages and design of transport networks. The results of the research are used to test the concrete solutions and effects of traffic policy ih the field of the design sustainable urban systems.

Course content:

Significance of research of road traffic flows and formation of a database. Modern the database. Equipment for measuring of the road traffic flows, technical characteristics, possibility of application, accuracy, etc.. Theories and models of the road traffic flows. Methods of sample selection, statistical analysis. Research in real systems and real-time. Practical work on real data and modern software. Calibration of models and testing of alternative solutions using macro-simulation and micro-simulation.

Teaching methods:

Lectures, consultations, practical research, independent work of students.
