Training students to independently research the literature and to independently conduct research in the field of advanced data compression techniques with emphasis on multimedia (3D) data compression for use on stationary or portable computers.

Students will be trained to independently research the literature and to independently conduct research in the field of advanced data compression.

Advanced topics in lossy and lossless data compression techniques. Data compression usage and needs in modern-day computer supported tasks. Data compression techniques limitations. Possible advances in data compression and possibilities for new researches. Future of data compression techniques. Advanced topics in still image compression, video and audio compression. Compression of 3D data. Transmission and streaming of 3D data. Stereo image compression. Multi-view image compression. Quality evaluation of data compression techniques. Advanced software development techniques in development and implementation of data compression techniques. High performance computing and optimization in data compression techniques development and implementation.

Forms of teaching include: lectures, practical work on computers, developing projects, as well as consultations. During the lecture classes the content of the course is presented using the necessary didactic materials and stimulating the active participation through presentation of the assigned materials. The practical component is covered through computer work. The student is obliged to develop an independent project.
