Subject: Corrosion and Prevention of Corrosion (17.DP025)

Native organizations units: Chair of Materials and Joining Technologies
General information:

Category Scientific-professional
Scientific or art field Materijali i tehnologije spajanja
Interdisciplinary No
ECTS 10
Educational goal:

The main aim of this curs to give basic knowledge of corrosion and also to give detail corrosion protection.

Educational outcome:

Knowledge obtained from corrosion and material protection and it`s application of that knowledge in the industry is of a great importance for the industrial basis, because of high cost of corrosion induced damage, which can be caused directly or indirectly.

Course content:

Basic concepts of degradation of the material properties depending on the environmental impact. Damage caused by corrosion. How the corrosion originated and how to detect corrosion damage. Corrosion rate. Corrosion processes and classification of corrosion processes. Corrosion mechanisms. Chemical corrosion. Electrochemical corrosion. Corrosion of metals in different environments: corrosion in seawater, local corrosion, atmospheric corrosion, corrosion of metals in the soil. Special forms of corrosion: biological, corrosion due to mechanical action, corrosion fatigue, abrasion corrosion, erosion corrosion, cavitation corrosion, etc. Methods of testing the propensity of matter to corrosion, characterization of corrosion. Corrosion protection procedures. Metal protectional coatings.

Teaching methods:

Lectures, independent studio research work, consultations, mentoring. Lectures are combined. The lectures show the theoretical part of the material accompanied by characteristic examples for easier understanding of the material. Through the research, student is studying scientific journals and other literature, independently deepens the teaching material. In addition to working with a teacher, the student is trained for independent writing of scientific work.
