Native organizations units: Department of Production Engineering, Chair of Forming Technologies and Surface Engineering
General information:

Category Scientific-professional
Scientific or art field Livenje, termička obrada, inženjerstvo površina i nanotehnologije
Interdisciplinary No
ECTS 10
Educational goal:

Deepening of existing and acquisition of new theoretical and practical knowledge in the field of characterization of nano and micro layers. Training for independent problem solving, planning and implementation of experiments, and analysis of experimental results. Encouraging creative thinking and critical analysis of existing scientific knowledge and practices.

Educational outcome:

Upon completion of this course, students possess theoretical and practical knowledge of characterization of nano and micro layers. They are able to: 1. critically analyze existing scientific knowledge and practices from the selected course modules; 2. independently solve theoretical and practical problems from the selected modules; 3. independently design and conduct experiments, independently use equipment and materials necessary for conducting the experiments, and critically analyze the results of the experiments; 4. improve existing and develop new methods, instruments and materials in area of the selected course modules.

Course content:

In accordance with the planned research focus, student in agreement with his advisor chooses at least three of the following modules: Analysis of chemical composition; Methods for determination of phase composition; Analysis of architecture and microstructure of thin layers; Determination of mechanical properties; Characterization of tribological properties; Determination of corrosion resistance; Surface morphology analysis.

Teaching methods:

Lectures, study and research work, and consultations. During lectures, theoretical part of the teaching content is presented and supplemented by practical examples for better understanding. Through lectures, students familiarize themselves with contemporary scientific knowledge, scientific methods and procedures from the field of this course, which prepares them for autonomous research work. Study research work includes all forms of teaching that are in the function of training students for conducting a research, writing scientific articles, and creating a doctoral dissertation. As such, it includes active monitoring of primary scientific sources, organization and execution of numerical simulations and experimental research.
