Educational goal:

Energy undoubtedly has a strong influence on the national and regional economic and social development. There are three main objectives of energy strategies: 1) security of energy supply, 2) competitiveness of the energy system, and 3) the sustainability of energy development. Throughout this course, students is going to develop their scientific abilities, as well as academic and practical skills that are necessary to understand and design sustainable energy strategies and policies. In order to achieve the global goal of energy policies in terms of reducing the impact of climate change, the necessity of integrating environmental goals and measures, energy through national policies is emphasized.

Educational outcome:

Students will acquire the necessary knowledge to critically discuss the structure, functioning and creation of national and regional energy strategies and master the specific practical skills that are necessary in developing political and economic mechanisms aimed at achieving long-term and short-term energy goals.

Course content:

This course covers many areas of energy, including oil and natural gas, coal, electricity, renewable energy sources, nuclear power plants, energy efficiency and climate change. This points to the need to define the fundamental factors that drive the energy market, cause turbulence in the market, and encourage national and regional governments to control the energy market as a whole. Students will become familiar with and master the basic tools used to analyze and evaluate startup options of individual energy sectors, software tools for energy consumption planning, and more. The development of creative abilities is mastered by the process of designing energy policies and strategies and assessing the effects of proposed measures. A thorough knowledge and understanding of the legislative, regulatory and institutional framework of energy is expected. The effects of planning and implementation of the concept of decentralized construction of production energy systems and the growing use of renewable energy sources will be particularly valued.

Teaching methods:

Lectures, study research work and consultations. The lectures provide a theoretical part of the materials with the use of modern equipment and information and communication technologies. In addition to lectures, consultations are also held regularly. Study research work ensures that all forms of teaching are in the function of directly training a student for research, writing scientific papers, but also performing simulations of the effects of implementation of energy policies proposals.
