Native organizations units: No data
General information:

Category Scientific-professional
Scientific or art field Process Technics
Interdisciplinary No
ECTS 10
Educational goal:

Introduction to advanced topics of mass transfer theory and their applications in specific processes and the plants.

Educational outcome:

Extended knowledge on methods of mass transfer analysis, as well as possibilities of application of mass transfer within various fields.

Course content:

Fick`s equations for n-k mixtures, diffusivity in n-k systems according to constitutive relations of Fick type, Maxwell equations, diffusivity in n-k systems according to consitutive relations of Macwell`s type. One-dimensional and multiple dimensional diffusion in multiple component systems, nonstationary molecular diffusion in one direction – multiple componenet systems. Convective diffusion (fundamental terms, mass transfer in different cases through the pipes, on a flat plate, with turbulent flow, interphase diffusion mass transfer, film-penetration theory, combined models, domains and application conditions of different models in specific examples, overall mass transfer coefficients, and other interphase mass transfer exchange examples, specific problems of diffusion mass transfer). Application in different industrial plants, civil engineering, medicine. Part of the course is planned to be done through student's own study research work in the field of theory and mass transfer applications. Study research work includes following the primary scientific sources, organization and conductivity of the experiments and statistical data processing, numerical simulations, and eventually writing a paper in the specific scientific field relevant to the doctoral dissertation.

Teaching methods:

Lectures, independent study research work, consultations. Through the lectures is presented theoretical part of study material using modern equipment and information and communication technologies. Through the lectures students acquire and master modern scientific knowledge, scientific methods and procedures which train them for an independent study research work. Among the lectures, the consultations are also held regularly. Study research work includes all of the teaching forms which are in the function of immediate students' training for research, writing of scientific manuscripts, as well as preparation of doctoral dissertation. Study research work includes active tracking of primary scientific sources, organization and conduction of numerical simulations and experimental research.
